Baracoa is a city in Guantánamo Province, where Orlis Pineda was born, near the eastern tip of Cuba. It was visited by Admiral Christopher Colombus on November 27, 1492, and then founded by the first governor of Cuba, the Spanish conquistador Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar in August 15th, 1511. It is the oldest Spanish settlement in Cuba and was its first capital (the basis for its nickname Ciudad Primada, “First City”). Among its natural attractions are the Toa river, marked by numerous waterfalls among which the most famous being The Saltadero of 17 meters high, and the mountains of El Yunque. Baracoa is a piece of paradise worth knowing from where Orlis brings us some of their rhythms on this CD.
