CD design for Joan Diaz‘s “Si yo pudiera cantar tu misterio” (If only I could sing your mystery), the first record of this songwriter based in Madrid.
“If only I could sing your mystery” has been a long-awaited album. It has been made thanks to a crowdfunding on the Verkami platform. This is his first studio album published so far. It has been recorded, mixed and mastered at the Sub Vox Recordings studios in Madrid with the participation of these musicians and artists: Nicolas Auger, Maria Bolaños, Manu Clavijo, Paco Crespo, Miguel Fuentes, Oscar Galián, Diana Gil and Yeray Jimenez.
The design of the booklet, with urban photographs made by Yaiza Diaz and Joan himself, is a game of backlighting, counterweights, solitudes and concrete. The sky is breathed at the last moment of the day, in suggestive sunsets that serve as a counterpoint to the weight of words.
The album was presented at Sala Clamores in Madrid on May 21st, and you can listen to it here.
Joan Díaz began writing songs in 2005. The first concert he gave alone, with only his songs, was in 2008, and even then some people encouraged him to record an album. That plan was very far then, so why now? Out of necessity. To record was in recent times becoming something that the author had to solve as soon as he could. The songs and his own conscience were already screaming for it. A song is not made to live secluded in a notebook.
This album can be the perfect starting point of this new process that has opened now, dedicated to leaving properly recorded many of the songs of recent years.
